Pregnancy Checklist. Week #30
1. I sent thank-you notes for all my baby shower gifts. Now I just have to return any gifts I got two of — and buy the last of what I need.
2. It’s official! I’ve preregistered at my hospital or birth center. Hospital paperwork is the last thing I’ll need to deal with in the middle of labor.
3. I want to be prepared to take care of my baby in an emergency, so I signed up for an infant CPR class. I also want to be ready to feed my baby if I plan to breastfeed, so I signed up for a breastfeeding class.

4. My partner and I have scheduled some date nights. We want to make sure we get plenty of dates in during the next few months while we still can!
5. I called my insurance company again to find out what I'll need to do after the birth to add my baby to our health insurance.
6. Now that I’ve learned about breastfeeding, I’m starting to think ahead to solid foods. I’ve researched high chairs and booster seats — I’ll need one before I know it.
7. If I’ve got a pet, I’ve figured out my plan for introducing my fur-baby to his new “sibling.” I’ve been practicing ways to teach my pet to respect baby.

Pregnancy Checklist. Week #29
1. I’m keeping “the girls” comfortable: I bought a new maternity bra. I went to the store and got professionally sized, and I chose a bra that’s also good for breastfeeding.
2. I figured out my budget for any big-ticket items I didn’t receive at my shower, like a crib, a stroller, or a changing table.
3. I bought any small items I didn’t receive at my shower, like a bath tub or a baby carrier.

4. My washing machine is already working double duty! I washed all the baby clothes and blankets, as well as cloth diapers and anything else that will touch my baby’s skin. I used a baby-safe, irritant-free detergent to make sure I got rid of anything that might bother my baby’s sensitive skin.
5. I’m avoiding foods that can cause gas, like cabbage, beans, and dairy. More bloating is the last thing I need right now!
6. I made a list of people I want to send birth announcements, and I dug up all their addresses from my Christmas list.
7. I’ve been learning about newborns. Apparently they either sleep all the time or cry all the time — or sometimes both. I’m prepared for either!

Pregnancy Checklist. Week #25
1. I sent out invitations to my baby shower! (or I had my hostess do it.) I made sure to include information about my baby registry.
2. I may be exercising less these days, but I know I still need to eat enough. I’ve been making sure to eat whenever I feel hungry. I’m staying healthy by choosing healthy food, not by limiting calories.
3. My partner and I have figured out our family budget! We’ve planned our finances for baby’s first year and figured out how to afford all the baby stuff we’ll need.

4. My office chair is getting uncomfortable. I’ve bought an exercise ball to sit on instead, at least for part of the day. Bonus: bouncing on an exercise ball is great during labor!
5. My partner and I have both rewritten our wills. We’ve added baby as a beneficiary, and we’ve made the big decision about who will take care of our child if something happens to us.
6. We’ve taken our baby moon! My partner and I went on our last wild, carefree, baby-free vacation. (Or as wild as you can be when you’re 25 weeks pregnant.)
7. I’m taking one small step toward better sleep: I stop drinking water about an hour before bed. I’m hoping this will cut down my midnight bathroom breaks to just one or two a night.

Pregnancy Checklist. Week #23
1. I’ve thought about whether I want a labor or postpartum doula. If I do, I’ve gotten recommendations from friends and set up some interviews with possible doulas.
2. My baby registry is finished! I’ve picked out everything I need for baby — or at least almost everything. I’ve double-checked it with a few experienced mom friends to make sure I’m not forgetting any essentials.
3. I’ve researched ways to prevent varicose veins, and I’m doing my best to exercise regularly to improve circulation, avoid standing for long periods, and put my feet up every day.

4. Sorry, honey — I’ve been losing my temper with my partner a lot more than usual. But we’ve talked about how I really feel, and he understands (sort of) that pregnancy hormones have me on an emotional roller coaster these days.
5. I’ve ordered my cord blood kit if I plan to bank my baby’s blood. I’ll read through the instructions and make sure I understand them as soon as it arrives.
6. My partner and I talked with our doctor about our options for cutting the baby’s cord. We know the pros and cons of immediate vs. delayed cord clamping, and we’ve decided on our plan.
7. My job involves a lot of sitting down (and I’ll be honest: I’m not complaining!), but I’m making sure to stand up and stretch at least once an hour and walk around the office when I can.

Pregnancy Checklist. Week #22
1. I’ve found out whether I’m eligible for Family and Medical Leave Act leave. If I’ve worked at least 1,250 hours for my employer in the past 12 months and I work within 75 miles of 50 or more company employees, then I qualify.
2. I’m nailing down my plans for work after baby comes. I’ve figured out how many hours of childcare I need per week, including my travel time to and from work, and I’ve planned my budget for childcare.
3. I’m getting enough calcium and potassium! I’m getting calcium from a glass of milk before bed, a handful of almonds, or a kale-and-pineapple breakfast smoothie. I’m also enjoying potassium-rich snacks like grapefruits, oranges and bananas.

4. I want to spend some time with my girlfriends before arranging childcare becomes essential for an evening out. I’ve scheduled some time with friends I haven’t seen lately.
5. I’m adding a few more pills to my daily supplement regime. In addition to my prenatal vitamins, I’ve started taking DHA and fish oil every day to help my baby’s brain development.
6. My mother’s and grandmother’s experiences in labor could predict what mine will be like, so I’ve talked with my mom and grandma about their birth experiences. If nothing else, it gave me the chance to hear some fun family stories.
7. I’ve called my health insurance and found out what’s covered for my baby’s birth. I also double-checked if my provider is in-network.

Pregnancy Checklist. Week #21
1. I finished choosing our nursery furniture! I’ve got a crib, a changing table, and a dresser.
2. My fingers are starting to swell, and by the end of the day, it’s really hard to get my rings off. I’ve figured out a solution: either I’ve temporarily stopped wearing my rings, or I’ve had them resized.
3. I’ve thought about what role I want my partner to play during the baby’s birth, and I’ve talked with him about it. He’s ready to hold my hand, massage my back, and even cut the cord.

4. My partner and I have talked about the big C: circumcision. Unless we know we’re having a girl, we’ve talked about the pros and cons and agreed on a plan.
5. Hello, baby! I’ve talked to my baby today (and he sort of talked back…he kicked!).
6. I’ve chosen my childbirth class! I signed up for the childbirth class at my hospital — or for private classes if I decided I prefer that.
7. Zoo animals, cars, fairies, sheep? I’ve picked my nursery theme and colors! I can’t wait to start decorating.
