Baby Checklist. Month 8 Week 2
1. Baby waves “bye-bye” to everyone and everything — even himself! Before we leave the house, we walk around and wave to all Elliott’s favorite toys.
2. Baby seems to prefer one hand over the other. This could be Elliott’s permanent hand preference, but it’s too early to know for sure.
3. Whenever possible, I keep my baby barefoot. This helps Elliott’s foot muscles develop properly, and it strengthens Elliott’s arches. Barefoot is the best way to learn to walk!

4. Baby is starting to understand simple commands. I’m teaching Elliott “no” and “stop” — they’re important for safety as well as discipline! I make a game of it to make it fun for Elliott to learn.
5. Even though baby sleeps pretty well, I still feel tired all the time! I got myself a gel eye mask to help with the dark circles under my eyes.
7. Baby’s crib is sidecarred: it’s attached to our bed, and the side next to our bed has the rail removed. This makes it easy for baby to sleep in Elliott’s own space and still cuddle up to me when Elliott wants some comfort at night.

Baby Checklist. Month 8 Week 3
1. I help baby put vocabulary in context by describing what’s happening while Elliott plays. I say things like, “See the green ball going up and down!” These simple activities are exciting for me and baby both!
2. Baby loves eating finger foods! Elliott can feed herself small foods like banana pieces, pasta, crackers and cooked vegetables.
3. I set up a baby obstacle course today, just for fun. Baby loves crawling over pillows, under chairs, and through tunnels!

4. I limit baby’s TV time — it can hurt Elliott’s language development. Ideally, Elliott won’t watch TV at all until Elliott is at least two.
5. I ask for help if I need it! I’m trying to recognize my limits and be honest about what I need.
6. Social media and texting are awesome and convenient, but they’re no substitute for a real conversation. This week, I’m making a point of calling instead of texting so I can actually talk to people.
7. I got a rolling walker for baby where Elliott can sit and walk around the house. Elliott loves it, but I limit Elliott’s time in it, since it’s not good for hip development or leg strength. And I only let Elliott use it on the ground floor of the house so Elliott can’t fall down any stairs!

Baby Checklist. Month 8 Week 4
1. Baby has been having a harder time falling asleep at bedtime, and Elliott isn’t always sleepy at Elliott’s usual naptimes. I think it’s time to move from three naps a day to two.
2. Baby loves to practice walking around while holding my hand! There’s nothing sweeter than feeling those little fingers wrapped around mine — even though I get exhausted from bending over so Elliott can reach my hand.
3. My partner and I have talked about our discipline philosophy and how we want to approach teaching baby right from wrong. Toddler tantrums are just around the corner, so we want to be prepared!

4. I give myself a treat this week — something decadent and delicious like a muffin, a cupcake or a parfait. I’ll sit down and relax while I eat it, even if that means I have to wait till naptime.
5. I talk to my baby all day long — while we’re getting dressed, cooking dinner and playing. Listening to me talk helps Elliott understand how communication works.
6. I take some time in the evening to relax and read in my PJs.
7. I got my hair done! I asked for a cute, low-maintenance style. I don’t even have to blow dry it now!
