It may not be completely surprising, but a recent survey is showing that moms are buying their own Mother's Day gift this year. Mother’s Day is upon us again, and this is the time when mom can relax, sit back and enjoy her day. Every mother has a different idea of what a perfect Mother's Day looks like. Some moms want to spend it with their children, some moms just don’t want to cook a meal for anyone that day and other moms would appreciate a nice gift. However, they may not want to ask for one, so they end up being disappointed with what they receive.

In behavior that is very typical for moms, they may end up going out and buying it for themselves. According to SWNS Digital and People, more than half of mothers admit to buying themselves their own Mother's Day gift, and they wanted to find out exactly why.

The survey was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Mejuri and it asked 2,000 American women about gifts and what they receive. Overall, they found that 84% of women buy themselves gifts even when they don’t celebrate the holiday. It is always important to treat yourself.

While the survey also revealed that women buy their own birthday gifts, Christmas presents, and Valentine’s Day gifts, it spoke volumes about Mother's Day.

The survey found that 54% of the women polled bought themselves a gift for Mother's Day. On a side note, 10% of those numbers were women who were not even mothers.

Some women were asked why they did this and one woman said that she does it because her daughters want to buy her something, but they don't know what to get her. So, she goes out and buys her own gift and then gives it to the daughters to give to her. Her daughters wrap it, make a card, and then give the gift to mom on the big day.

Sometimes, this is really how a relationship works. Some stated that their spouse just doesn’t know what to get them. It works better if they just buy themselves something instead of their spouse getting them a gift they don’t like or need. However, a big problem could still be that communication around gifts, 57% of the women said that their family does not ask them what they want for Mother's Day or any holiday. It looks like even if mothers want the perfect gift for Mother's Day, they have to do it themselves.
