With a LOT of patience. Seriously, you're going to need bucket loads of patience and to keep your expectations realistic of what a 3 year old is capable of. Remember, they're learning how to navigate in this world and behave appropriately. They're going to have bad days and meltdowns, just like we do.

Give warnings and make your expectations clear. Follow through with consequences. Distraction and redirection can help. Try to help them see things from another person's perspective. Use time outs if necessary. Make yourself appear calm on the outside so you don't escalate the situation.

It may take some trial and error to find the best ways to discipline your child and your methods may even evolve as your child grows.
