The diagnostic criteria for aspergers is the same in both girls and boys. Depending on age there may be psychological testing done that is both written (a self evaluation) and a hands on test to see how well they process directions. Physicians will also look for signs such as trouble making eye contact, decreased social skills and stimming. A big part of the process is parents expressing concerns since they are the ones who see behaviors that may be of concern. Once this over all diagnostic approach is done the results may point to the child being on the autism spectrum, or may not.
