Foods to avoid while breastfeeding

Some foods such as asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower can cause gas in breastfed babies. Also anything containing bran. Just about every kind of fruit can make you toot, particularly apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, plums, and the citrus family. Also dairy chocolate and caffeine.


The biggest ones I try to avoid or eat sparingly are dairy, tomato products, and soda. Other things to avoid are sea food, raw or undercooked, spicy and alcohol.


None! It is a myth that you can't eat certain foods while breastfeeding.

Alcohol and caffeine should be used in moderation.

All foods are safe for breastfeeding. Some babies might have an allergy or sensitivity but this is not as common as people think. Eat a normal diet and only eliminate a food if your baby is having problems.
