The Red Cross and many hospitals do not allow blood donation during pregnancy. During pregnancy you will have an increased blood volume to accommodate the increased demand of the placenta and your baby. The standard amount of blood taken for a donation is larger than what a pregnant woman can safely give up. Pregnant women are also more likely to suffer from anemia. Donor blood needs to be the highest quality due to very sick people getting the blood, blood that is anemic isn't good enough for them. It is recommended that pregnant women wait to donate blood until a few months after their pregnancy.
