The hook effect is extremely rare and some believe it is not even possible. The theory is that the hormone level is SO high that a urine pregnancy test will actually be negative because the result is too high to trigger a positive result. Some say it is not true because women don't product high enough levels to cause this to actually happen. If someone thinks there negative pregnancy test is a false negative due to the hook effect they can simply dilute their urine and test again. If their diluted urine tests positive then the first test was a false negative due to the hook effect.
