104 temperature in a toddler: can it cause brain damage?

The first time my son ever got a 104 fever, I freaked out. I called the on-call doc, fully prepared to take him to the ER. The on-call doctor told me not to worry. So long as you keep the fever managed, they are OK. Sure brain damage is possible, but usually not until the fever is over 107 and that is unlikely to happen unless the child is dressed to warmly with a fever or is in a hot car. Even though I known that, I still worry when the fever is high.
