Should chores be tied to allowance

I don't tie chores to allowance for the simple fact that chores are what you do as a part of the family. Everyone has to pitch in, there's no reason to pay them for doing something that I feel they are obligated to do as a family member.

That said, I don't really do an allowance either. My kids understand that I budget money, and if I have money left over and they would like to buy something I usually don't mind at all. But the budget always comes first.

We offer them to Seth (6). He has to do chores. He has the chance to earn up to $5 per week.

And I am with you, as a member of the family there are certain things that are expected of our children but I would like to pay them for helping at markets, haying, washing eggs, collecting eggs, helping with the CSA and doing farm chores because it is all above and beyond house stuff.

You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn't wish for that, but it happened.
