Does sterilizing baby bottles really make a difference?

I think it is completely pointless to sterilize baby bottles. They are never truly sterilized, as soon as the bottle come into contact with the air they are no longer sterile and have bacteria on them. A baby's mouth and stomach are not sterile and they do not require sterile food. Formula and water are not sterile either. Just wash bottles in really hot, soapy water and they will be clean enough.
