Yes, birth will stretch your vagina and birth canal. That is what is supposed to happen and you body will, for the most part, go back to the way it was. The female body is truly amazing in this way.

As far as tearing goes, that can happen. Peri massage can help and a slow labor (not induced) can also help relax the peri area. Avoid an episiotomy (cutting by the physician) because it is much harder on the body and can cause more problems than tearing.

Many women tear during birth and that is okay. You will get some stitches and have to do sits baths. Very few women have long-lasting effects from that.
