The more cigarettes you smoke per day, the greater your baby's chances of developing these and other health problems. There is no "safe" level of smoking while pregnant.

It is best to avoid smoking cigarettes during pregnancy. Smoking can contribute to a low birth weight, which isn't good for your baby. Your baby may be born prematurely

Smoking also doubles the risk of a still birth. Often smoking can contribute to babies whose respiratory system is underdeveloped which can lead to breathing problems. It can increase the risk of SIDS. The risk is much higher that your baby will have a heart defect if you smoke during pregnancy.
