If your baby was premature or has medical issues your doctor might send your baby home with an apnea monitor. An apnea monitor can be tough to get use to at first but it is easy once you get use to it. A medical professional who provides you with the monitor should teach you how to properly use the apnea monitor. They should also provide you with written instructions and a phone number to call if you need help. Be prepared for false alarms. If the monitor starts alarming the first thing you need to do is look at your baby and evaluate how your baby is doing and not panic. Help your baby and then deal with the monitor. Contact your medical provider as instructed.
