You can get a notebook or clipboard and write down what it's in your freezer. When you bought it and when it expires. If you are making things like meatloaf write down when you made it. Also write the date on the ziploc bag incase you have more than one. It's fairly easy to do. Just have to get in the habit of doing it. It's nice to know what you have in your freezer. It's so easy to lose food in your freezer. If you have an extra freezer, either have two logs or write the location too. I don't know how many times I have searched and searched for something only to find out it's in the other freezer.

I do a lot of freezer cooking and I buy meat on clearance fairly often. I also like to make larger batches of food so I can freeze portions for later. We have a side by side fridge/freezer as well as a chest freezer and both are normally pretty full.

I have a notebook and all of the food listed by category: meat (pork chops, drumsticks, etc.), sides (sweet potato fries, veggies, etc.), meals (baked ziti, meatloaf, etc.), and baking ingredients (flour, zucchini, etc.).

When I buy anything at the store I add it to my log.
