I have a sister with 3 children. Thomas is 20, Abigail is 11 (well, 11 tomorrow) and Emily is 10 in 6 days. Her son Thomas was born 4 months early and does not have any issies now, but did as a toddler. He had developmental delays. He weighed just over 1 pound. Abigail was born 4 weeks early. She has signs of autism, and developmental delays. She really is a beautiful girl though. Emily was not born early. She is beautiful just like her sister, and their brother is handsome!

I had my daughter at 35 weeks. She was in NICU for 10 days, but I stayed there. I didn't go home until she did. She didn't have anything wrong with her except she had to learn to breath, suck, and swallow. So had to be on a feeding tube for awhile. She was born weighing 3lbs, 6oz. And she was only 15 inches long. Preemie clothes were even to big for her, even preemie diapers. But they let us take her home and she only weighed 3lbs 7oz! She had to have a special car seat we had to take her home in which layed down flat. she had to be in that for a long time. But she is doing amazing. Just still pretty small. She is almost 4 and weighs 25lbs.

my husband was born 2 lbs 2 oz in 1966! He and his brother (4 lbs something) did just fine. I have heard that preemies catch up in the end, all things considered.

My cousin was only 28weeks I believe when she was born. She spent most of the first year of her life in the hospital. She was so small she could fit int he palm of your hand and my uncles wedding band fit her like a bracelet. She was only about a pound when she was born. They maxed out her insurance at $1million and had to make arrangements with their credit card company to pay the rest off. She had multiple surgeries and tubes in her ears and I believe was fed through a feeding tube. If you see her today (shes now almost 20) you would have no idea she was a preemie. She is super smart and talented. She is taller than I am and has no serious medical problems all though they still monitor her constantly. They got so lucky that she survived and turned out to be an amazing young woman.
