It is possible to get pregnant while you're breastfeeding but it is very difficult to track your ovulation.

If I was exclusively breastfeeding, if the baby was a heavy suckler (it's the suckling at the breast and closeness in proximity to the mom that suppresses ovulation that's why women in third world countries can have three years between babies) and slept with my babies my period stayed away longer and I usually did not get pregnant as fast. I did not learn this until my third pregnancy.
