Does yelling at kids make bad behavior worse?

I don't yell at my son but my sister yells at all three of her kids. What I have discovered from her yelling at them is it makes them act up more cuz they are seeking attention and are mad that she yelled at them. If they don't act up then they will throw upset tear running tantrums until she stops yelling and listens to them. They usually just want to explain their original behavior and get a lecture instead of being yelled at

Yelling is pretty much counter productive. Children learn to tune out yelling so it does not help the situation. It is better if you calm down and then talk to them. Be consistent and follow through with any consequences you dole out so they know you mean what you say and say what you mean.
