Cats are also great for therapy. I have friends who are Autistic and they have cats. The purring sensation and the cuddling helps them a lot. Also, the soft fur of the cat.

I heard Labs make great therapy dogs. My sister had a lab and he was excellent with all of my nieces and nephews. He even crawled on the floor when one began learning to crawl and crawled right along with my nephew.

We have a miniature Dotson and his son who is mixed with Chihuahua, Jack Russel and, of course, Dotson. We were actually blessed with a very mellow and sweet Dotson who has never nipped or bit anyone. His son is the same fun-loving and gentle type, despite his breeds.

Golden Retrievers are also excellent, mild-mannered dogs as well as Great Danes. I'd research the breed before purchasing. But, I would definitely recommend a Labrador or other Retriever as a family pet because they always have great reviews, and we have had retrievers and they do make excellent pets and adore children.

i don't think a dog is a good pet however it depends on what breed your looking at. I would stay away from german sheapards, shitzus, yorkies, shiba inus, maltises, and some smaller dog breed try tend to be too hyper and the barking may hurt their ears. I would recommend a lab or a medium to large breed dog they can be generally calmer and have a better temperament . if you decide a dog is not for you another good pet is a ferret. As kits yes like puppies they play bite however they have a high tolerance for being handled don't bite once nip trained and don't bark or make loud noise unless extremely scared or badly hurt so it is easy to tell what the animal is thinking . despite their rep they are absolutely a great family pet and definitely will be a good choice for your family ( if getting them get two so they can play with each other when you dont want to or dont have time to play they can play with eachother they are very social creatures)
