My son had anxiety for AGES, and we found that sitting with him for a few minutes - moving further away and for less time each night helped a lot. We also got into an iron clad bedtime routine, bath, PJ's, cup of tea/ milk/ water (now it is tea with no sugar) story, song, sleep.

We also found that he hated the cot and would flip himself out of it in the middle of the night so at 9 months in the interest of safety we put him in a toddler bed. BEST DECISION EVER

at night when it is bedtime I coddle him a little more because he is going through some separation anxiety, I think, and I don't want him in distress before he goes to sleep.
