Engagement of baby's head is one of the signs that labor is likely to occur soon for first-time mothers. During the last few weeks of pregnancy your prenatal caregivers will be assessing the position and descent of your baby's head into the pelvis.
When it engages you will probably notice that your breathing becomes easier and that your indigestion and heartburn have disappeared now that the pressure on your abdomen has been somewhat relieved. Instead, you will be feeling a new pressure in your pelvis and it is likely that you will need to urinate frequently. However, if this is not your first baby, engagement may not occur until shortly before, or even after, labor starts.
