Protein and blood in urine during pregnancy

A small amount of protein in the urine during pregnancy is normal. Your kidneys are working harder now!

But, it can also be a sign of possible problems. Early in pregnancy, it may be related to a UTI. Your doctor will probably order a culture to determine if that is the case.

The biggest problem is pre-eclampsia in the second half of pregnancy. Your doctor/midwife will regularly check your urine for protein and monitor if you are having an increase.
