The most important way you can help your 3 year old child with their language development is to be a role model. Facilitate conversations with them, ask questions, explain everything, use complex words with different contexts.

You can encourage your child to talk with activities like digging in a sandbox. Bury some toys in the sand and go on a treasure hunt with your eyes closed. Take turns naming each discovery.

Look at a picture book together. With each page, read the word aloud and ask your child to tell you a story about it. Ask for details or what will happen next.

Have imaginary play together. Tea parties are a great opportunity for this. Pretend you're each a story character. What would each one say?
