How safe is removing your own IUD

It could be unsafe to remove your own IUD because you don't know how to properly do it and don't know what possible damage you're looking for. However, plenty of women have done it themselves with no problems. I would be on the safe side and go to the doctor just in case. Otherwise, make sure you know very, very well what you're doing beforehand.

It is not a good idea to remove your IUD on your own. The IUD may implant and cause damage to your uterus. You may not know what you are looking at and not realize if there is a problem with the IUD. The string is just there so you know if it is in place.
