Runny nose: teething or cold?

Most medical professionals believe that runny noses are caused by colds rather than teething. Anecdotal evidence may prove otherwise, but it is also possible that a baby can be both sick AND teething. I've done it--it's not fun.

Several cards said that when a baby has a runny nose, that means they are teething. My son was about 2 months old and we were at the pediatricians office and I asked the doctor if a runny nose meant teething. He told me no. A runny nose typically means the baby has a cold.
