The physical maturity and readiness skills needed for successful toilet training for boys appears between 18 and 30 months. The average age for a boy is around 31 months.

Before a child can use the toilet, they must be able to control their bowel and bladder muscles. Some signs of control are having bowel movements around the same time every day, not having bowel movements at night, and having a dry diaper after nap or for at least two hours at a time.

I've kept him totally naked for a day a few months ago and I feel I need to retry and stay consistent for at least 3 days. What is the 3day method mentioned above? Any advice would be helpful. He used to tell me after he finished using the restroom and I began to really try at that time and he then stopped and now refuses to tell me anymore and prefers to use his potty as the stool to get into everything.

We potty trained Mason at 26 months, so just after he was 2. We chose to do the 3 day potty training method and I don't have enough good things to say about it (we did the same method with Audrey, and will do it with Hayden when it's time). It took a bit longer for him to be night trained, it was probably closer to 30 months before we stopped wearing diapers at night.

I believe the average age is somewhere around 2.5 - 3.
