Mom, did you keep your maiden name? Why or why not?

I was very traditional and took my husband's name when I got married. Sometimes I wish I had left it hyphenated but I think it's just me hanging onto the past. I loved my maiden name. Now there' s only two boys in the family to carry it on, so that's another reason I wish I had kept it.

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I switched from Benson to Bradley. I was relieved to be detached from my family! And I know he has a popular name but I love it <3

I took my husband's last name too, in part because I'm traditional and in part because I was tired of people mispronouncing my maiden name. However, the interesting (sort of) thing is that now I'm getting divorced & I'm actually choosing to keep my husband's name. One reason is so that I have the same last name as my son. The other is because I have a professional license and I don't want to deal with getting my license reissued. Additionally, I work as a clinician (social worker) in a hospital and I don't want to draw attention to the fact that I'm getting divorced by changing my name. Plus, changing the name the first time was a huge hassle, so doing it again doesn't seem worth it.

I took my hubby's name because I wanted to. But I have already told my daughters they have a choice and they don't have to.

I'm very traditional and was excited to take my husbands last name. It's sad to say, I was a shy kid in school, so not very many people remember my maiden name. I was always Danielle or Dannie.

It was an honor to take my husbands name and people never mispronounce Jones like they did Franke my maiden name. Now my first name is the only one mispronounced and I have to correct them with the long"O" sound. I love both names and now my three boys will carry on the Jones name.

Yes, me too that's our family tradition and belief. Once a female is married she must take her husband's family name.

Kept my maiden name. Socially, lots of people call me Mrs X, which is my husband's and kids last name. I always joke that my decision was "10% feminism and 90% laziness" b/c I didn't want to change all the paperwork. But now I am really happy I kept my maiden name. My brother is the only other one with that last name in the extended family, and I'm not sure he is the marrying and settling down type. So I am glad I get to keep this part of my childhood and this part of my dad, who died when I was young. I wouldn't dream of changing it now...

When I get married in August (wow, it's getting closer) I plan on changing my last name. It will make things alot easier for our family.
