Over Medicating Kids...

My friends little girl is or was rambunctious.. she was pretty out of control, but in all honesty her mom, my friend wasn't handling it the best either.. sort of didn't follow through, etc.. But I don't judge and wasn't about to assume I know what it was like..

Anyway... she decided to put her on a medication for ADHD... not sure what it was but when I saw her after summer .. OMG.. she was sooooo different and totally checked out.. She was a totally different little girl it was almost creepy...

Anyone know what I mean? There is another little girl that is like that now.. I know her from being in my daughters class two years in a row.. always a little out of control, not listening, etc.. and then this year.. she's so calm and quiet and I swear to you.. she seems super stoned...

it's weird.. I wonder if the parents see it.. or if they just see the meds working...

Altering their brainwave activity, it's not good and some kids abuse their meds when they get older. I just think the kids need more attention and activities to keep them occupied.

That really is sad, I never have given my kids any kind of medication, it is so annoying that the mother does not see what she has done to her child!

I definatly don't mean to be rude, I just want their bodies to stay as clean and pure as possible. Sorry you had a negative experience.

and in not bashing that, if my kids were injured or seriously ill I would medicate them as well.

Some might need a lower dose to so the child isn't in zombie mode.

I doubt that parents see it ... I SO wish they did!

Maybe they are just trying to find the right dose.. if my child needed a medication for a better life and ability to focus and make friends and sit still .. then I have NO problem with giving my kids what they need.. I also know that I would first exhaust all other options.. before I did so and I would NEVER judge a mother for her choices.. because no one knows what happens behind closed doors...

The problem that people can judge about are the moms that are medicating to make it easier on THEM.. not for the benefit of the child..

What my friend sees is that her child is calm and not crazy running around anymore.. What I saw was a very subdued , eerily calm child.. my kids are relaxed but still are kids and run around.. This little girl was at the Friday popsicle line, standing there with a smile on her face, watching everyone else run around and play and talk... so not like her...

I'm certain that she needed something.. her school work was behind.. behavior was bad. etc... so maybe they're just finding the right dose and time of day to give it..

it is very strange though to see a child that looks high as a kite..

We live in Los Angeles, CA. I'm a writer, comedian, actor and single mom of two. Parenting is hard. I try to keep a sense of humor about it all and find the find the funny... in what is most likely NOT funny (i.e. boogers, meltdowns, homework, etc.).
