I am trying to get more moms to check out my blog. Its crazy because one day I will have visitors in the low triple digets and the next I will barely crack double digits.

Its a mommy blog about family, food, fun, and fitness. It started out just as something fun but has grown but the numbers are so inconsistent.

It's hard to attract traffic to single blog - there are tons of blogs in web).
Do you think of blogging as a way to earn or just for yourself?

I do it just for myself, really. I have a professional/portfolio blog for my (new) freelance career.

Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. I know the "continue reading' is kind of annoying. I write content for certain websites and they have given permission to post the first paragraph before I have to link to their site. I think a lot of those articles are relevant but legally I cannot post the entire article on my blog.

I agree with Mandi on not making readers jump through hoops. (Btw I didn't know you had one!! Link, please?) I've found great, GREAT advice on blogtyrant.com and thinktraffic.com Maybe try checking that out!

I also agree with promoting elsewhere unless it is very relevant and you are able to easily weave it into what you're saying.

        Hi Christi!

I help small businesses, and even blogs out with networking and reaching an audience - what is your overall objective of your blog? Make money? High traffic? Reach people? Personal journal of sorts? The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to network - reach out to OTHER bloggers.. trade blog badges or links.. create a sidebar that showcases YOUR fav blogs.. and in return, approach them about doing the same. Guest post on blogs.. the possibilities are endless. But I think some people have trouble understanding that just because you start a blog, doesn't mean people know it is there :)

Thank you for your advice. Yes, I am taking a course on SEO Marketing and have learned a lot that I can use for my own personal blog. I'm just really looking for traffic and to reach people. Right now, my mommy blog is, ironically, read more by men than women. I am link partners with several other blogs in the area and would like to expand my network.

This is FANTASTIC advice! Make sure you're commenting elsewhere with bloggers relevant to your niche. Also, one thing I noticed is you bounce around a lot on your topics. If your end-goal is traffic, money, keeping really engaged readers, etc... Make sure your posts are relevant to the blog. If it's just a personal journal for you, keep doing what you're doing! (I love it by the way) But if you're trying to grow, keep it within your niche... Food- great, exercise- great, Breaking Bad (unless you weave something about your niche into it) irrelevant to many of your readers who came to you to hear about fitness and food and motherhood. You know what I mean? It could always go on social media like Twitter though, because I'm sure some of your readers watch Breaking Bad too! Hope that makes sense.

One other thing, making a plan goes a long way. I don't mean pages and pages of analysis and hardcore strategic marketing... Something like the blogger plan template from ThinkTraffic goes a long way!! (It's also completely free if you sign up for the newsletter) http://thinktraffic.net/the-ultimate-business-pla…

It really helps to organize your thoughts. It asks questions like what are you trying to achieve with your blog? What makes your blog special/standout/unique. How much personal information do you want to share? What's your niche? What are other people in your niche doing? etc etc.

I find it really helpful to think about these things and it can spark all sorts of new, creative ideas and really give your blog a strong motivating kick and a sturdy foundation. Give it a shot!
