CANDY LOOT TRICKS!!!

I make rules before we trick or treat - one candy per five houses or something like that.. and then to lessen the load - I straight up offer them cash.. What's their candy worth? $5 for half? A nickel a piece?

I also flat out refuse to let them eat candy corn.. it's wax and high fructose corn syrup... and they don't like them anyway...

What are some trick you use to lessen the treats? Avoiding full on sugar rushes?

And which ones do you "steal" when they're not looking?

I mix all of the candy together, and then we sort it. Half of it stays home, and the other half either goes to a food pantry or homeless shelter. We don't need all the sweets here.

We don't have a lot, but we have enough. Right before Christmas, one of our traditions is for the kids to go through their toys and make a donation box to give to charities. My daughter loves the idea of giving kids in need things that she has. Even though we don't have a lot, I love her heart. She is such a good kid.

I look at it this way, we don't have much, but I know my kids have lots of family that will get them lots of toys. This is my way of getting rid of the ones they don't play with anymore to make room for the new ones. I do not do santa, for me this brings around the REAL reason to Christmas. Sometimes, I join in and get rid of clothes and other "junk" I have collected throughout the year. It is a great bonding project. Last year, I learned a lot about my daughter. I learned that I had been buying her things that I thought she "should" like instead of learning her interests.

I have a friend who does that. It works well with her family.

We live in Los Angeles, CA. I'm a writer, comedian, actor and single mom of two. Parenting is hard. I try to keep a sense of humor about it all and find the find the funny... in what is most likely NOT funny (i.e. boogers, meltdowns, homework, etc.).
