It increases bonding between parents and child. I'm a single mom, so it might be a bit easier for me. My son is 5 months old and still sleeps on my chest. It's the most comfortable sleep I've ever had lol. Plus I get to see my little one's face smiling so early in the morning. Now when the child gets to be older, perhaps at one year, they should probably be sleeping apart from you, otherwise, they will get really attached and kind of spoiled. (Although, if you choose to sleep with your LO past that age, I'm no one to judge)
