Baby Signing!?!

How do you all feel about baby sign language? If you used it, how has it worked so far? Was it pretty east to teach your child? I am interested in teaching Zavier how to sign, and they say to start between 6 & 9 months and he will be 6 months in a few weeks, so right now I am learning the signs. They seem to be pretty simple. I think I can teach him, just I wonder if they actually help!?

I have friends who have taught their babies.. and it does work and it does make communicating easier.. they literally cannot talk well until a certain time period.. but this lets them do that before they can TELL/SPEAK to you different things..

ie.. milk, food, nap, all done, outside, mama, papa

I took ASL in college.. it's an amazing community - I will be doing this with mine!

l have not personal used baby sign, but I had a baby sitter teach my child some sign when she would watch her. I think its a great way to teach your child to communicate before they can talk. I still remember trying to get my then 1 year old daughter to tell me please. It took us two weeks before we were told that the hand gestures she was using meant please. I was slightly aggravated that I was not told, but grateful in the end.

As neat as I think it is, I have chosen not to do baby sign language with my children as I heard it can significantly delay spoken language because they prefer to just use the signs. I do not know the full legitimacy of this research or how intensely it has been studied, however.

Second this request for info! Because if it won't delay them, I would love to do it. Before I heard about that I downloaded books on it and everything!
