Starting and Oral Hygiene Routine with Your Baby
I thought these tips were great, even learned a few things I didn't know about starting oral hygiene routine with my baby. How did you start doing this?
I started when she started eating solids. I got the NUK brand with a finger toothbrush so I could do it for her. She has two bottom teeth so when she starts walking and has a better grasp I will let her brush on her own with my assistance.
I have always brushed my sons teeth so when he sees me brushing mine he tells me "teeth" so I ask him if he wants to brush his teeth he says "uh-huh" and now he wants to brush his teeth all the time. he takes me by the hand walks me to the bathroom stands on his stool looks in the mirror points to his teeth to let me know he wants to brush his teeth. I started teaching him this at 7 months
wipe with damp gauze or cloth. I like the gauze and you can do this right away. Then when that first pearl pops up graduate to soft brush
I have a gum rubber that keeps her mouth clean also a baby cloth works too.
I use my finger and gauze for now... and when he's eating foods I'll get a baby toothbrush. :)
I started when my baby was about three months old...I got a gum brush from walmart pharmacy...I read somewhere that baby gum health is super important and can prevent thrush if you clean after feedings ect...but i didn't use the paste until after solids were introduced i was afraid it would upset his tummy so I used water to rinse and brush his gums
Now that my kids are getting older they feel they don't need to take care of their teeth even though they have seen first hand the bad teeth our family has, my mom, dad and brother and even cousins, I got lucky mine are no where near as bad. However, they still don't want to brush their teeth. I now have to give them the option that they can do it on their own or I will have to do it for them.
