How do you kindly refuse baby items from friends and family?

I have been graciously asked if we want any items from a friend, clothes, car seat and a cradle, I have been reading about car seat recalls an other cradle recalls. We also have no extra room to store things right now at our current apartment. I think its really sweet people are being so generous and thought full, but we just cant store anything extra right now. What would be the best way to refuse? We also don't know the sex of the baby yet so we don't want things we wont need.

I used to just say "i already have one of those, but thank you!" since Ashton and I wanted to buy all new things for both babies :)

Can you say you just are not ready to take anything right now but to check back with you in your third trimester? Or something to that affect?

I would be honest and say I don't know what I need yet and I have no where to store stuff. Car seats expire and are not save to get used so I would not take one of them for sure.

Just say thanks though we do not need that right now. If you still have it when baby is here and old enough for it check with me then. I said this a lot to those who offered unless I knew it was something we needed or wanted.

I agree with the ladies. Especially when it is your first child. You want everything new. Mainly that car seat and crib. You are very early on in your pregnancy and you just want to enjoy these months as you and the baby grow. You will have plenty of time to decide on what you will need new and what you are willing to take that is used. The only polite thing to say is "thank you, but I don't need it now".

Thanks Ladies, I told her we don't have the extra space for things right now and that we might take some of the clothes when we find out the sex of the babies, but we are really excited to buy new things for the baby, she was fine with it!
