Kids Individuality

Do you let your kids express their Individuality? They all have their own unique personalities and styles. I want to inspire confidence in my little girl, allowing her to express her Individuality through her own personal style. When I was growing up, I always had my mom telling me what I could and could not wear, which made me a little self- conscience. What do you moms think?

    What a great topic!

I let my kids express themselves as much as I can. They can pick their own clothes, do their hair the way they want, etc. As long as they are clean and not inappropriate I think they can chose. My kids are often in crazy mis-matched outfits but they love it and think they look great, who am I to judge or make them feel bad about it.

I always let the kids decide what to wear and things like that, as long as it's clean. I don't let them wear clothes that are dirty though like putting pants back on that need to be washed or a shirt back on that needs to be washed, same with their underwear. I try to let them be and they develop their own habits and things.

My 3yr old is very strong willed and I have to admit she is often in dirty clothes. She throws a huge fit over everything and we are learning to pick our battles. As long is it is just food spill or paints or something we will let her wear it for awhile.

yes even before they were born we said that we are going to let our kids be who they want to be I don't judge other people so why would I judge my own kids for who they want to be in life even as little kids.

I let my children express themselves! The only time i would hinder expression or creativity is if it was inappropriate behavior or dress!

My little guy is growing up with farmer grandparents on both sides, both sets VERY "old school" girls like pink boys like blue etc. We were in Costco with my parents and my son was enthralled with this pink Minnie Mouse toy vacuum. I thought it was adorable. My dad comes over with a red car and is like, this is what you want grandson. I said if he wants the pink vacuum, he gets the pink vacuum....end of story. My grumpy old farmer dad was not so impressed but I am raising my son to make his choices of individuality from an early age and I am NOT going to force "boy" or "girl" items on him. I will embrace his choice and not give it a "label". Hence, nursery colors for him were bright orange, turquoise, lime green, brown, etc as I did not want him to be surrounded by just blue. At this age he is really drawn to pink, orange and red colored items and that it just fine with me. I think in this day and age we need to get away from "assigning" what is appropriate for each gender and let them decide what they like. Just like, I am a girl and I LOVE The color blue, nothing wrong with that :)
