Coffee or not to Coffee?

I have seen many preteens/teens lately drinking coffee... what age do you think is appropriate for beginning to drink coffee?

My gram gave me coffee when I was 13, I've been hooked since. I think 16 and up, caffeine is an addictive drug so it's up to you when you want to let them have something.

I didn't start drinking coffee until I had kids, my husband on the other hand had coffee in his bottle( horrible right). I think high school or college, or when you have kids :) is a good time.

I started drinking coffee when I was in High School. I was either 16 or 17 and decided one day that I wanted to try it so I did and I liked it, I drink coffee every day now.

Only my grandparents and parents drank coffee. My kids they didn't want coffee but they loved milk chocolate for breakfast or hot milk. For me I had tea with cream or plain and started drinking when I was in a secondary school.

I started drinking it as a freshman in high school, but it helped mostly with my constant migraines.

We were telling our oldest 18 but we reneged on that and allowed her start drinking it this year. I should check with her to see how much she's drinking. I won't buy her coffee for the house but we found some that goes with our Tassimo and I told her she could drink it. Other than that it's Sundays when she helps me on the paper route. It keeps her awake instead of falling asleep on me. ;)

I enjoy a good strong cup once in a while. I love Starbucks (flavor varies with my mood) with a double shot of espresso but it is too expensive for regular use. I am told my grandfather, full blooded Danish, began giving me coffee when I was 6 months old and he made very strong coffee.

My boys began drinking coffee when they were about 2 years old. I am trying to get the whole family fully followin the Word of Wisdom and getting off coffee (not because of the caffine but because of an acid in the beans) but it is hard because we all enjoy it.

I was always told that coffee stunted your growth... any truth to this?

I must have been 18 or 19 and working a full-time job when I started drinking coffee. Teens should not have to drink coffee, they just need to be in bed by a decent time!

I think I started drinking my freshman year in HS. Mostly because I was up super early and traveled a good hour to school. I would say 16 is when I'd let my kids drink it o a regular basis. But definitely not all day, in limited amounts.

I started drinking coffee occasionally at 16, then really started drinking more coffee at 17. It's a tough call on when to start allowing someone to drink coffee.

I think I'd rather them drink coffee and soda.. At least you know what's in coffee. But we don't have the issue of coffee shops, so they will have to drink black or with homemade creamer and coconut sugar.

I'm not big on coffee. My husbands mother gave him coffee as a kid because she thought it would calm him down since a he's ADHD. I don't think kids need coffee 15 or 16 is ok I guess

I've heard so many negative things about coffee, but here's my take: Coffee is natural. It comes from the coffee bean, not a lab. Unlike soda, it has no artificial colors, preservatives, etc. It's funny how Americans can take a drink with potential health benefits and make it unhealthy. I think the worst thing about coffee is all the sugar and cream we add to it, not the coffee itself.
