..tiny baby activities?

Okay so maybe this is a silly post.. but I am a new Mama, stick with me :)

I googled "newborn baby activities" yesterday because I already feel like when Monroe is awake and happy.. he's bored! ha! I want to keep him awake during the day as much as I can and active.. so he is tired at night.. but I was unsure of ideas of what to do with him.. I found putting him on his play mate is fun.. for awhile, haha! Plopping him in his bouncer is great.. he even eventually falls asleep.. He hates just hanging in his bassinet solo.. starts to fuss easily.. I also read just sitting with them while watching TV, reading to them and carrying them around the house is great just for stimulation.. can you Mamas think of anything else?

Note it's SUPER cold right now where we live.. if I could go on a walk I would.. but it's like below 20* around here.. (insert cries) :)

Ah that's super refreshing to hear, Mara! Sometimes I feel guilty having him snooze after feeding and laying him in his bassinet.. but I do agree that we don't want him to get used to being swooped up when he makes one little cry.. it seems like such a balancing act! And the fact you mentioned taking time off later is funny.. I actually told my husband I would rather him take just a bit of time off after he was born and use other weeks months later :) Also.. newborns are a lot of work.. thanks for remembering that :)

The fact is a baby is with us nine months and it takes time for them to get use to not being with us. If he is fussy when you aren't near, that's normal. If I laid my babies down so I could get something done, I'd place my nightie or shirt I'd worn next to them so they could smell me. It seemed to work for me.

I use to sing to my babies, read to them, just talk to them like I was talking to anyone else, especially when they would sit in their bouncy seat while I worked in the kitchen. I'd tell them what I was doing etc. No they don't answer but it's stimulating for them. Do you play music for him? You could introduce different genres of music to him as that is stimulating to the brain.
