Calling All Writers: I am challenging you to an a**-kicking adventure!
I know some of you out there have probably heard of it- the wonderful world of NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. And boy, has it gotten huge. It begins this November.
You can read extra about it here www.nanowrimo.org.
I challenge you to sign up. Not only that, I challenge you to challenge yourself to COMPLETE it.
1667 words a day. They don't even have to be fabulous words, you just have to put the words on the page. Take a few paragraphs to ramble about penguins if you must, just get down 1667 words.
For 30 days.
That's 50,000 words. A novel. (A novella, really, but that's beside the point)
I know some of you out there already have a book floating around in your head (Stephanie!!) and even if you don't, you can indulge in the literary abandon and just see where it takes you. It's amazing what stories you have to tell that you didn't even know about yet.
There's also a book about it called No Plot No Problem which I think is helpful all year, not just during Nanowrimo.
There are moms of many who do it. College students who are doing school and working full time who have toddlers who do it. There are plenty of people who do it because if you want to write, you will MAKE the time to write. It doesn't have to be forever. Just one month.
So, I'm calling all of you who want to write out RIGHT NOW.
No I haven't prepared, I can't there are kids to take care of, my job keeps me busy all day. Nothing. NO excuses.
The dishes can wait. The house doesn't need to be perfect. You can make some lasagnas and spaghetti and other freezable meals into your freezer now and save tons of time all month on dinner and dishes. One month of a bit of (extra) sleep deprivation won't kill you, and may make your creative juices flow even harder in the delirium.
So with that, I challenge thee to go forth and write!
Or at least go check out the site and see what it's all about. :)
And I am DEFINITELY excited!
