Poultry, poultry and more....

I knew this was coming and we were concerned about the weather, at least it is warmer even if we do not have pasture yet.....but we have 120 meat birds/chicks and 150 young laying hens coming on Thursday from the hatchery. Feeling a little overwhelmed because the ground is too frozen to put fencing up, there's no grass with all the snow and we raise "pasture raised" poultry. Sigh. The joys and challenges of being a farmer.

We had hawks last summer and that was challenging. The farm where we bought our daughter's goats offered us two geese for free so we are going to pick them up this weekend. They are guard geese and sound the alarm at nearly everything they say so we'll see how they do here. I worry more about our dog getting them because he's definitely not your typical farm dog in that sense. He's more of a family dog.
