Mommy Thumb/Mother's Wrist

Has anyone else been diagnosed with mommy thumb (offical name is de Quervain's tenosynovitis)? I've had it since two weeks after Kaitlyn was born, though did not know what it was until she was almost two months. I have to wear a brace every night and I have been wearing it during the day a few days each week at work. I am hopeful it will continue to get better and not have pain when I have to quickly grab Kaitlyn in a way that makes it hurt.

Primarily overuse of the thumb/wrist. They say to modify how you are picking up and holding your baby, which at times is so much easier said than done! I try to hold her with my other arm as much as possible. We struggled with breastfeeding on the one side, so that's how mine came about. It's similar to how some people during pregnancy get sore wrists and have similar symptoms to carpel tunnel; this is just a different area.

I have not been diagnosed with anything official--I did not even know this was something official. I have had lots of thumb pain and soreness and tension since my little guy was about 2 months. I have always thought it was just because he was very active and hard to control sometimes; he is extremely strong. Glad to know I am not alone on this and will def. ask my midwives about it. Thanks!

Google it and look at the symptoms and try the motion they use to check to see if it is this. It's worth going to the doctor to get the appropriate brace to wear. It makes a huge difference if you are in pain.

I got pregnancy induced carpel tunnel in both wrist when I was pregnant with my first daughter and it has never gone away. They've suggested surgery but my MIL had the surgery twice and it never helped so I think I'll pass.

I work outside of the home full time and so does my husband. I cherish all the time I get to spend with my daughter.
