Who has been the most influential...

Who has been the most influential person in your life as far as how you parent?

I see a lot of my grandmother in my own parenting techniques. She was always supportive and loving, had the best hugs ever and really loved taking care of people by doing things like cooking for them.

Remembering her and how she was with us grandchildren (she kept us in the summer while our parents worked) I hope to be half as wonderful as she was. She always made us feel important, safe and would let us give her makeovers whenever we wanted! Some of my best memories is of giving her a faux hawk while she sat at the kitchen table reading.

So, who is your biggest influence?

I would have to say my paternal grandmother and my former pastor's wife. I do many of the same things my grandmother did with me and my former pastor's wife was a shining example of what a mother should be and her children were a testament of that fact. My mom too, as she was a very involved mother. Always there for us, having homemade baked goods made and waiting after school. I am grateful to have wonderful women in my life to show me how to be a good mom.

I lost my grandmother in 2007. She had health problems for a long time and I think she gave up after my dad died in 2006. He was her first child and I remember her saying that it wasn't right for him to die so young (55 going on 56) that she should be the one to go because she's lived her life. :( It was heartbreaking to hear her say that.
