My husband found out his unemployment is DONE

We received the unexpected news that my husband's unemployment is DONE. We thought, according to his paper work, he had until August. Nope. It's gone. No more. Talk about panic mode. :( I've been relieve to just work the last two hours so I don't have to think about it. Here's to hoping we can find something....

Thank you, I'm hoping. It's been slim pickin's for the past six months so he may have to go in a different direction for the time being.

What kind of work does he do? I hope he is able to find something soon!

He's a buyer in retail. He's done everything from assistant manager to being a gopher in high school.

My husband ended up getting a job at the local high school as a custodian. Turns out it pays pretty well and has great benefits. He doesn't love the job but he likes his boss, coworkers, and the fact that he gets to work independently. He does miss doing what he was trained in and what his previous career was but the work just wasn't steady and didn't work well with raising a family. Working as a custodian gives him nice hours too, he gets to spend a lot of time at home with us.

That's a nice success story. Thank you for sharing. I am sure much of our weekend will be scouring the ads and sending out resumes.

Very true. It's finding the right employer that feels the same way. I think my husband may be being overlooked due to his age. I mean why isn't over 30 years experience enough, just because he has a 2-year degree instead of a 4-year degree? 30 years experience means nothing it seems. I feel bad for him sometimes.

Thanks, Heather. We've thought of that and the fact that our home is never quiet is what keeps him from doing something like that. We do have a basement though so I'll have to suggest it to him again. The children are old enough where they could learn to be quiet or go outside, now that it is slowly getting warmer.

It seems like that news keeps flip-flopping though.

He has done that, posting his resume and very few bites in the last six months. It's one page and he's only ever worked at the same place but for three different owners.

I know our local office does offer some of those things so he just has to get over there again and take a look again. Thanks, Debi.

I know exactly how you feel. I got laid off and so did my daughter (we worked at the same place) and they insisted at that time our secretary at our job was going to do everyones unemployment. Without any notice we stopped receiving our money, tried contacting unemployment agency and can't get through or get anyone to answer, even after emailing them, tried contacting the secretary and she was rude and said she stopped doing it but never notified anyone telling them, it was by chance in how we found out. So we are no longer getting unemployment, even though we still have weeks left that we were approved for. That is why I decided to start working at home with two businesses, Jewelry in Candles is one as a representative, and Avon as a representative. It still depressing cause I have just started my businesses and working on getting customers and others to join my team and I know it will take me sometime because I know it won't happen overnight, but I am persistent and have been working on them every day. In the mean time the only income we have coming in what my husband makes and its not much when you are trying to support a family of 5, and we are in the process of moving back to Va in May after my daughter graduates high school.

Sorry to hear about your situation, Belinda. You are right some work at home opportunities take time to develop and receive a real income from. Good for you for trying! Good luck!
