When I look back at my labor & delivery, the part I remember the most clear was _____

I was terrified during delivery. My OB even made the comment "Um.. what happened to my feisty sarcastic no nonsense patient?" Because I lay there stiff as a board not saying a word. So some things stick pretty clearly to me, some were a complete blur. But here's what I remember the most...

Charlie was delivered by C-Section. The doctor brought him around to let me see him for a moment before cleaning him up. He was white. All white. I read all the forums, I did the childbirth classes, I picked up the magazines.. they all said he'd be white. But I never imagined that much white! lol it's like someone painted him like a statue. And he looked like my grandfather. I remember that. After the "holy cow that's a lot of white stuff!".. it was "whoa.. he looks just like grampa."

What is the most clear memory of your labor/delivery?

I don't have many clear memories about my own labor/deliveries. Is that weird? Overtime they have just kind of gotten fuzzy and fell out of my head.

I do have clear memories of all the labor/deliveries I attend as a doula. I have at least one moment from each that is stuck in my brain.

That was the hardest part right? When they let you see your perfect little bundle for just a moment... then you wait, and wait, and wait. I couldn't wait to see Charlie. I just kept babbling in recovery trying to make the time go by. My nose itched.. that was another thing. The anesthesia made my nose itch so bad I thought I would scratch it right off. So glad the complications were not serious for your little one!

Alissa, I recommend you write out your birth story now, everything single thing you can remember while you still remember it.

I got sick during my first labor and then started shivering like crazy. They put a bunch of warm blankets on me and it felt wonderful.

With my second labor the nurse had me sit up and wrap my arms around me while getting the epidural. I literally had my face buried in her chest and when they got it started I moaned "Oh that feels so good."

              A little embarrassing in retrospect.

Oh, and my (ex) MIL walked in while I was giving birth. I didn't even care, I was like "Whatever, if she wants a crotch shot I will give her one she probably won't ever forget."
