Day care concerns

Riley will be 1 in a month and his daycare transitions him to the toddler room then. Yesterday when we picked him up we were informed that his teacher is concerned because he isn't eating solids and he sleeps too much. He eats solids at home, we were never told it was an option at day care. So that we can easily change next week. But the toddler room only gets one nap in the afternoon. My son still naps twice a day, sometimes a third nap after he gets home. What can I do about his morning nap with so little notice? I'm afraid he's going to be a holy terror due to tiredness once he switches rooms.

Stretch it out every day until you can eliminate the first and the second may come earlier. Make sense?

He may be a terror in the beginning but he will adjust.. His body clock will come to and get into the groove. I also recommend following their schedule at home no matter what.

What time does he go to bed at night? If he takes a late nap?

My kids would have napped late in the day but I didn't let them it they wouldn't go to bed until 9 or 10..

So I took the afternoon one away and for a while they were asleep for the night at 6 then 6:15 then 6:30 etc.

    Thoughts?

It sounds like they should leave him in the baby room. If he needs two naps then they need to let him have them. Two naps are perfectly normal at this age and I think all 12month olds should be having two naps still. I also don't think they should be concerned by his lack of solids. I suggest talking to them about your concerns and what you expect for his care. I hope they are able to accommodate his needs.

That was my thought. Most kids don't drop to one nap until 18 months or later. So why are you pushing all these younger kids onto that schedule.

We did speak to them. The food is not an issue, we just need to change his diet at day care, he eats those things at home any way. And both my husband and I mentioned out surprise about the sleep schedule. And clearly they see how much he sleeps during the day. Hopefully, they will be prepared and a little accomdating and we will work with them.

I hope they will work with you on the sleep thing. Let us know how it goes so other daycare moms can learn from your experience!

I had my first child in April 2013, just before our one year anniversary. Riley has been an absolute joy and I love every minute of being mom. But I am the first among my friends to have a child, so there isn't always an easy place to go for advice.
