Tips for finding friends for shy moms

I'm pretty shy and reserved for the most part until you get to know me. I was always told to show yourself friendly if you want to make friends . I have also found that for some reason I can attract friends just for being me. I made an awesome friend through our CSA last year. I also have farm friends who upon thinking back wouldn't have thought we've ever be close friends, yet for some reason we have a decent farm friendship.

Based on the above, whatever your interests are go to events to meet people with like interests as that can be a common ground for friendships. If you want to meet moms with children the same age, go to the park in your neighborhood or when you take a walk around the block, stop and talk to the moms out with their children. Don't be put off it they don't warm up right away, as they may just be reserved, persevere and keep being friendly and the ones meant to be friends will be.

What are your tips?

Very true, Melissa!

I use to care too much, now with age, I don't care so much. I want friends who want to be my friend not use me for whatever end they have in mind.

I am shy until people get to know me. I do long for socialization though. I always made some friends at work and church but kept to myself. Besides my husband, my sister, Holly, is my best and closest friend. I do have my internet friends from FB. We are far from walking distance to a park and we have only one vehicle.

That sounds like me. I am a very literal thinker and say off the wall things as well and usually respond with a fact, even when someone is joking. I have a touch of "aspy" as well. Was even diagnosed with pdd-nos. I have autistic traits but not enough to be considered autistic. I make friends with animals better than I do with people. Even the neighbors' animals seem to like me better than their masters and get excited to see me and greet me whenever I come home (one actually waits for me). I have had deer follow me home and come up to me for me to pet them. My way with animals amazes my husband, I just wish I could be that way with people. It is much easier to chat online since I do not have to make eye contact (or worry about making sure I do) and then there is this item called "delete." :)

I'm really shy so it's hard for me to approach people I don't know but I'm trying a lot harder to overcome that now I have my son because I can share that common interest with other moms. And in the past when people had asked me to meet up I've come up with excuses because I'm too shy to go but this year I'm pushing myself not to turn down opportunities and so far I've had a few good experiences because of it. I figure I'm in my 30's now it's time to come out of my shell!

I have always been shy and feared rejection and hated meeting new people! But once I left for college, moved to a totally different town, knew no one, and started fresh I was able to come into my own. I greeted everyone with a smile, was open to new activities and experiences and was truly myself! With my new found confidence I met some amazing people who accepted me for who I was and learned to love me and appreciated my passion for life, laughter and love. Having a sense of humor helped a lot also and even though I don't attend Brenau University anymore I have friends that will last a lifetime and they are all apart of this new blessing coming into our lives! I take those same steps into my daily life and when I meet someone new I reach out remembering how it was when I needed someone to reach out to me!
