Ways to encourage confidence in your child

What are some of the ways you encourage confidence in your child?

I always push them to try things, even if they don't enjoy it they still had the nerve to try it. And if they do like it, then great!

I point out things they can do and praise them for the things they do accomplish or how they properly respond to situations. I, too, push them beyond what they think they can do. They don't like it but I think it is necessary to show them, YES, you can do this!

Since my son is still little, whenever he does something new or reaches a milestone, we clap our hands, get excited, and smile at him and tell him, "Go, Jonah!" or "Good Job, Jonah!" We do the same when he repeats what he does. When this happens, he will do it again and again and smile and get excited as well. Even small things deserve praise.

I encourage my children to be different. Be the trend setter and not to worry about what other people think. to speak up even if they may be wrong and to always learn something new every day.

Not necessarily me providing confidence... but still worth mentioning... my 10 year old is in a program called Girls on the Run... it is an AWESOME program that installs confidence and healthy eating in young girls!
