Homeschooling autistic child: field trips
I do not home school Bub, my child who is on the spectrum. However, he will be attending a camp for children on the spectrum during spring break and over summer vacation for two weeks. It is not a sleep away camp, however they do go to different places like the Science Museum or swimming. The camp sponsors volunteers to help the staff and parents with the children during the field trips. This seems to be very helpful for when the children get overwhelmed or are having a hard time staying on task. So, my suggestion would be to have another adult with you to assist if you believe an outing my result in behaviors that are challenging.
