I'm also planning a wedding and I get most of my ideas from pintrest. We're also living in a different state than our family so we're planning from 2.5k miles away. It's stressful but fun all at the same time. :)

Woo.. Wedding!!! I am so excited for you!

I loved planning mine.. and here is how I would start... simple and easy!

Forecast WHAT you want your wedding to encompass and look like... keep in mind what budget you are working with and really zone into what are the important elements to you in a Wedding.. it can be anything, but keep those at the forefront and everything else can fall into place easily... you will need to think of things like..

              - date
              - location
              - ceremony type
              - people you want involved.. a wedding party or not?
              - officiant
              - food
              - music
              - reception
              - decor
              - your dress
              - vows

Above all else... I would remind you to remember what the day is REALLY about... you are marrying the love of your life.. everything else doesn't matter in the end.. especially if something goes array during the ceremony or what not.. as long as you are married at the end of your day... it's all that matters ;)
