we had kids in our preschool wear blue for their friend who goes to school with them. I always think it is great to get the preschool kids involved in a special day like yesterday to help them be aware and support their family and friends.

I've never had an experience with any person with autism. There isn't much awareness on the condition in this part of Africa and I would like to know more about it.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art with .Each person with Autism will be at a different level of how they are effected and not all Autistic people have all of these listed above , my son is verbal with severe Intellectual Disability and other issues.

Thanx for the information. Here in Africa, people with any sort of disorder are usually stigmatised and ostracised, there's so much superstition surrounding these conditions.Families with special needs children are usually isolated and have little or no support .I'll keep learning more and hopefully start something to help in my country.

My son lives in his on little world always locked up in his room it so sad.I moved here and he feel safe now he comes out and he goes now and then to the gym.Every so often he goes off to his own little world and he looses his concentration.Yes like you said Joy they excel in different areas my son excel in Math and is very good with Religious classes he is studying to become a pastor he gets the good grades but when social activities he is often distant.I am his therapist his nurse and his trainer got him to loose 100 pounds.
