Is arm flapping always a sign of autism?
NO, it's not always a sign. Many children flam their hands and arms and are neurotypical. By itself, hand or arm flapping is not a red flag. If you have concerns it is always good to talk to your pediatrician though.
I think if there are other markers then yes.. but my kids flapped all sorts of things when they were happy and excited..
It could also just be startle reflex and then they realize moving their arms is a new cool thing they can do!
When nina gets super excited or sleepy she starts excitedly throwing her arms around excitedly and slapping her toys around, and her doctor says she's perfectly healthy
